Some of you may have noticed that this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Parade had a very special guest in attendence to get things started: a robot. Known as SONIC, the robot is the result of work by the Woodlands High School's local robotics club in Texas, winners of the FIRST robotics competition.
Most flying machines imitate creatures of the sky with their designs. That might not be wholly necessary. Turns out not everything without wings is grounded - researchers at New York University have created a flying robot modeled after a jellyfish. It works very, very well.
Black Friday isn't all about shopping carts, it's also about shopping cars! Retailers of all stripes are targeting drivers this year and some are being mighty creative in their quest to win over car owners. Umm, please keep in mind the term “door crasher sale” isn't to be taken literally.
There's no more timely holiday gift for a dog this year than a Duck Dynasty t-shirt or jacket and a toy. Quaker Pet Group, one of my favorite dog toy makers, licensed the A&E Duck Dynasty name and has gone absolutely quacky creating some really great high-quality shirts, jackets, duck toys, and even realistic Duck Dynasty hats and beards for your special dog - Family Certified. Redneck Approved!
When Cyber Monday was invented in 2005 to encourage people to shop online, I don't think anyone really expected what would happen next. Over the past seven years, online shopping's popularity has skyrocketed. Bad news for Black Friday, right?
I had always thought that the use of front paws to hold things in place was a natural behavior of both dogs and cats. But apparently, there are some dogs who don't, or don't want to, hold their bones. I say that because of this new product for dogs - the Bone Mat - which holds bones in place while your dog chews them.
I've always sort of regretted never learning programming as a kid. With how digitized today's sociey has become, it seems a downright indispensible skill. Parents: do your children a favor. Teach them. There's even a robot to make the job easier: it's called Play-i.
Rental shops were hit pretty hard by the birth of digital distribution. With platforms like Steam and Netflix around, no one bothers to rent anymore - no one really needs to. That's bad news for Blockbuster - which today finally signed off for good; its parent company plans to leave physical retail.
Touting a full 360 degree viewing angle, the Bublcam allows users to not only take spherical panoramas, but gives them the ability to livestream in a full 360 degree viewing field as well. Set to release May 2014, how does the Bublcam stand up to other 360 degree cameras on the market?
MIT is at it again. This time, researchers have developed something known as an "M-Block." Basically, they're tiny magnetic cubes that can move on their own and permanently stick together. In other words...they're the first step towards self-constructing robots.
