8 Great Gifts For Dads For Father's Day 2013 And Beyond

Father's Day.  When you get to my father's age, it becomes quite difficult to find something original as a gift.  Ties, while quite nice, are well-overplayed and no longer an option.  Take him out to lunch?  Sure... but again, not the most original of ideas.  Movies are a good idea... but unless it's a drafthouse, it's really not that special.

So what to get for Dad on this Father's Day?  Well, here are 8 ideas...

1. The Party Dad Gift Pack

This is pretty awesome, and lives up to it's name.  Included you will find the following:

  • Whiskey Stones
  • A Collapsible Shot Glass
  • A Beer Glass with a Periodic Table Breakdown
  • Beer Soap
  • A Beer Hammer Bottle Opener

If those items don't say that Dad is a MAN, I can't think of anything else that would.  The only things missing are the actual alcoholic beverages...

2.The Star Wars Dad Gift Pack

Okay, those of you that have followed my stuff know that I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan.  My Dad would like this... But I would like it more (hint to girlfriend).  Included in this cool set are:

  • A Han Solo Ice Cube Tray
  • A Deathstar Bottle Opener (possibly the coolest thing I've seen in a while)
  • Star Wars Family Car Decals
  • A Han Solo in Carbonite Business Card Holder
  • A Set of 4 Star Wars Glasses (the drinking kind, not the shade-your-eyes kind).

How can this not be awesome!?!??!

3. Darth Vader and Son

In following with the previous gift suggestion, this book is perfect.  It is so cute and funny, that it is quite hard to resist.  Just check out this one little frame:

I happen to agree with Daddy Darth...

4. Role Models

If you think Darth Vader was a bad role model... Well, if you've not seen this insanely funny (and quite accurate--I mentor kids, and I've seen some of this stuff first-hand) film, you and your Dad will have a blast.  I can't recommended this story about two court-ordered children's mentors highly enough.  What I thought was going to be a crappy throw-off comedy ended out being quite heartfelt.  And the character played by Paul Rudd--that's pretty much me.

For the sake of the foul language involved, I can't post a scene from this film in this article.  But here's a link to Youtube with what I consider one (of many) of the funniest bits.  It involves the head of the mentoring company and her checkered past...

5. The Denali 115-Piece Home Repair Kit

Tools are always a good idea for Father's Day, particularly when you focus on a kit with small parts.  The Denali kit above is quite all-encompasing when it comes to the basic tools that you need to make minor home repairs.  Among the many items supplied are a hammer, pliers, wrenches, a level, a tape measure, and several screw drivers.  While the kit does not come with a drill, it does supply a variety of bits.  This is quite a nice little set of tools...

6. The Wild Game Innovations Digital Scouting Camera with FlexTime+ Technology, 4.0-Megapixel

I'm not much into hunting, but I do a lot of camping and digging for fossils.  As such, this camera hit my radar simplly because I'm in the wilderness quite a bit.  If your Dad is into camping, fishing, hunting, etc. this camera may be a great gift.  It also won't break the bank at $63.00.  That's a good deal.

7. Portal 2 Sentry Turret USB Desk Defender

If your Dad has a desk job, this is a great gift for him.  Hell, I even want one--it may keep my 25 pound cat off of my keyboard when I'm not in my office.  Powered by a USB cable, this little turret is attracted to motion and will say any of these phrases:

  • Turret detects motion nearby:
    • "Target acquired"
    • "There you are"
    • "I see you"
    • "Preparing to dispense product"
    • "Activated"
  • Turret is moved or knocked over:
    • "Critical error"
    • "Shutting down"
    • "I don't hate you"
    • "Hey, hey, hey"
    • "Malfunctioning"
  • Turret is ignored (times out after 30 seconds of inactivity):
    • "Are you still there"

Pretty neato, eh?

8. Genesis S-330 3-Burner (38000 BTU) Liquid Propane Gas Grill with Side Burner

This is a Mac-Daddy of grills.  It's not cheap ($949.00), but it has some very high ratings and sports some unique features, such as electronic ignition modules for each burner.  Made of stainless steel and aluminium, this grill would make Dad proud.

To my Dad--HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!!!
