With the way gas prices are going, it's becoming ever more imperative to shop as locally as possible. It feels good too, to know that the money you're spending is staying in the same place you left it.
And if you are traveling, it's great to have local knowledge at your fingertips - pointing you towards the best burger joint, the friendliest service, or even the cheapest gas.
Better yet, is the joy inherent in helping someone out, or being helped out.
New app Loqly (pronounced locally) gives you all this, and a little more. Merging the location-based social networking of Foursquare with the Q&A knowledge market of Quora, Loqly gives you the tools to find out everything you need to know about local businesses, and to share your experiences of them, in real-time.
The key to this free iPhone app is specifics. Certainly, it's easy enough to find the most popular restaurant in the area - but do you know what today's specials are, or how long the wait is at the moment? You might be able to find the best hair salon, but who is the best stylist in that salon? You may even know which gym has all the new-fangled gear, but how can you tell which trainers know how to use it? This is where Loqly comes in.
There is, however, a bit of a hitch - and this is where you come in. Loqly is quite new, so still needs to be populated with plenty of data and users for it to be truly effective. In short, it's a great idea in need of some support - specifically, yours.
Go on, act Loqly, and soon you'll be reaping the rewards that can only come with truly local knowledge.
