Amazing Anime Makeover

From a forum posting on the Chinese internet comes this amazing photo set of an Anime-style makeover. The girl (unidentified) is from China, but by the end of the process she has that big-eyed Japanese cartoon look that's so popular with the kiddies these days. It's pretty amazing what a little mascara, eyeshadow and extra-big contact lenses can do.

Looking at the before and after you'd hardly believe it's the same person. I'm a little skeptical myself, but I'll let you be the judge. Check out the video for a walk through of the 'animakeover' process:

Oh good lord those contact

Oh good lord those contact lenses are CREEEEEEEEPY.
Educational video, tho.

Creepy Lenses indeed...

Rick Martin's picture

The eyes kind of remind me of that scary chick in the Ring with the beady black eyes.

No Way

no way is that the same person. If you look past the cosmetic stuff it's kind of obvious. Her nostrils are not as wide and her chin is a lot more pointy and defined. She also looks like she lost 10-20 pounds in her face.
I call bullshit on this one. I will admit the makeover is pretty cool but no way it's te same person.

I agree with the anonymous person

Jill Harness's picture

Her facial structure and complextion and hair are all totally different.

it's the same person!

I think the girl lost weight, stayed out of the sun or used fairness/lightness cream and lighter toned foundation. But I'm pretty sure she must have some cosmetic procedures done like teeth whitening [she never volunteered to show teeth in the before shots]; some sort of facial hair removal over her top lip--perhaps laser as opposed to waxing; bottom lip now sports a cleft in the middle?

I believe you can do a fair

I believe you can do a fair bit with the eye area, and the wig can make a face look narrower if long locks hug the cheeks, but short of surgery or photoshopping I can't see how the jawbone could be changed like that.

Almost plausible, but...

As others above have pointed out, the most glaring issue with the cheek and jawbone structure. Losing weight could reduce the size *maybe* by a little bit, but what we're seeing here is a drastic reduction possible only through plastic surgery or, as many (myself included) are led to believe, another girl standing in for the video/slideshow.

What kinda annoys me, too, is the over-adjustment of the contrast. I realize it's to create the pale-skinned look of anime, but geez, it makes it a bit more obvious that some level of photoshopping is going on here.

agreed. her cheeks stick out

agreed. her cheeks stick out in the before. Unless she's doing some weird myspace angle shit.

Well, it's established that

Well, it's established that it cannot be the same girl (either that or Photoshop must be the main culprit).

The makeover idea is pretty cool--with the eye thing. The contacts and glue. The makeup. Anyone else thinking of actually trying this? Cosplayers might go mad if they discover this...eh, maybe they already have.

Maybe the head is tilted.

I have my suspicions too as to whether it's the same girl.

If it is indeed the same girl, I think the only way they could pull off the pointy chin is by having her tilt her head downwards.

The possibilities!

I don't think it's the same person.

Maybe it is, only if this makeover process took for about 3-4 months. Maybe more.
If so, then the makeover process must have included the ''A'' girl losing weight, and once she did, either she had surgery for her face or it's just photoshopped completely.

The Jaw is SO different, and so are the cheekbones, I dunno. And her skin is more paler, notice? But with the skin subject, that can easily be changed with the sun and/or lightness.

Anyway, it seems fake, but who knows? If it is, then I would DEFINITELY want a makeover, too! ;D Just without those Big-black-eye contacts. Scary. -shivers-

How she fixed the Jaw, and it looks like the same person.

If you look at the before and after, she has her mouth open in the after shot, which changes the musculature and positions of the bones so her face looks longer and thinner. She may have also used some contouring powder and the paler, more reflective foundation reflects light to "flatten" her face and make it more smooth. She also seems to be holding her mouth differently, pressing her lips together. You can notice the difference in her mouth most dramatically between the transition from "before" to the "big contacts and double eyelid glue". The face changes dramatically, but the eyebrows stay the same.

As a female, I have a lot of respect for models and the art of posing them and applying makeup to make fabulous beauty even more so. If you don't think it's possible for women to change that much, look at episodes of the swan and at smokinggun.com for mug shots of arrested female celebrities minus stylist and flattering lighting. :-) There is rarely such thing as an ugly woman, just not enough money for styling. ;-)

What I think.

Angle is probably to blame for the pointier looking chin. Also, I think the reason she took the pictures is because Anime characters have pointy chins.
From an artistic point of view, I think there may have been some plastic surgery involved.
Even if it's a different person, that's pretty cool. I am a cosplayer myself, but I don't think I'd be able to pull that off. It's amazing though, and I might try some contacts like that.

no way in hell

i'm a cosplayer myself and i can tell you there is no way in hell that that is the same person

i should know~ my hobby is to make myself look like the character

the thing is... no matter what different hair, makeup can't change a jawline
you can't make a squared jaw girl into a triangled jaw it's just not possible!

i'm really offended that there is someone out there trying to pass that off

it pisses me off so much when people do that sort of thing... or try to pass a costume they haven't made off >> it is really insulting to all of us who actually put a lot of effort into our cosplays
