Is Apple Planning 12.9” iPads For 2015?
Currently, Apple are selling its famed iPad tablets in two screen sizes. You have your 9.7” iPad “classic,” and the 7.9” iPad Mini. However, a big 12.9” size may soon join the ranks, if Bloomberg's sources on the matter are right.
The 12.9” iPads will hit production by Q1 of next year, say the sources, and Apple has apparently been working with suppliers “for at least a year” on “a new range of larger touch-screen devices”. Unfortunately, there are currently no other details on these devices, and the sources themselves “asked not to be identified because the details aren’t public”.
A 13” iPad might seem too big for most of us, but Bloomberg suggests that businesses will be wanting them to replace or supplement laptops. It states that one reason for Apple's partnership with IBM, announced July, is to woo companies into being “a catalyst for future iPad growth.” Presumably there will be IBM-built business apps that take advantage of the big screen, among other things.
It seems interesting, but for now we'll just have to wait and see how things shake out early next year.
