Every year around October we start to see next years car models being advertised everywhere. If you are in the market you know it can turn into quite an adventure to find the right one for you. Hopefully this guide to the domestic cars available for under $17,000 will help.

Here are the domestic cars available for under $17,000:

2008 Pontiac G5

2008 Pontiac G5

The 2008 Pontiac G5 is basically the same as the 2007 G5. It comes with 148 horsepower from a 2.2 liter Ecotec. The inline-4 achieves 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. It also comes with GM's 5 year/100,000 mile power-train warranty. They also offer a GT version which costs about $3,700 more, putting it above the $17,000 mark. The G5 also scored very well in terms of safety, bringing all 4 star ratings with one 5 star in front impact.

2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

The brother to the Pontiac G5, it shares many common design characteristics. The cobalt also uses the 2.2 liter Ecotec making 148 horsepower. It also comes with the same 5 year 100,000 mile power-train warranty. A pair of 5's and 4's with single 3 star rating for side impact was awarded to the cobalt. It is a little cheaper than the G5 which can be blamed on the lack of a few novelties and accent pieces speaking in terms of interior.

2008 Ford Focus

Ford redesigned to focus for 2008. It will use a 151 horsepower Inline-4 through either a automatic 4 or a 5-speed manual. The combination is expected to produce 24 mpg city and 35 on the highway. The famous...vehicle from Chrysler is back for another round it 2008 as well. It will see power in the 150 range and still offers the same transmission options. Review and Recommendation

In taking a look at the best domestic cars for under $17,000, it's clear that a buyer has many options. Each vehicle offers it's own unique qualities, but the Dodge Caliber seems to pull ahead of the competition. With all-wheel drive standard and 5 star front and side impact ratings, it speaks for itself. The lifetime warranty is also very enticing.
