Bloat These Fish Up in the Blowfish iPod Video Game

If you're up for some no muss, no fuss mindless arcade fun for boring early mornings or for some mid-day pick-me-ups then this game is probably what you're looking for.

Bring bloated and adorable blowfish to life with the press of a finger in the Blowfish video game for your iPhone or iPod Touch. Fill up the screen with these puffy sea creatures while avoiding the sharp spines of the sea urchins that patrol the ocean.

UPDATE: This game may no longer be available.

The Game

The main premise of Blowfish is simple: create blowfish to fill up 2/3 of the screen within the time limit to level up. To create a blowfish, press your finger down onto the screen of your device to blow some air into them so they'll grow bigger and puffier. Release your finger to set it free into the ocean that is your screen. Tilting your iPhone or iPod Touch will cause the blowfish that you've created to move around and sometimes you can use this to your strategic advantage.

Of course, covering 2/3 of the screen isn't that easy because you have to contend with the spiky sea urchins that are constantly floating around. Don't let it come into contact with a blowfish that you're still growing because it will blow up your blowfish and make it fly away into ocean oblivion.

You also have to work against time because you will lose if you bloat your blowfish up too slowly. To add to the challenge, you only get a limited number of blowfish and lives to work with in each level. There's only one sea urchin roaming around in the first level but it gains a new spiky companion with each level up.

The Good

Like I said earlier, Blowfish is great if you want to have some gaming fun without having to use the old noodle in order to win and succeed. The game features unlimited levels so you can play on and on until you run out of lives or until you get bored with it, whichever comes first. A small plus factor are the adorable graphics and the amusing, ever-changing expressions of the blowfish idling away on your screen.

The Bad

Blowfish doesn't offer much depth except for the basic gameplay that I've already talked about here. There are no stories and no other goals to achieve aside from filling up a good majority of the screen with blowfish. The only downside of the game itself is that it could get a bit hard to see the screen with your finger in the way all the time, but other than that, it's all good.

The Verdict

With Blowfish, what you see is what you get, no more and no less. If this is the type of game you're looking for then you'll surely enjoy what Blowfish has to offer.
