BMW Unveils Gran Coupe Sports Concept...Challenges Mercedes-Benz CLS
BMW has always been about combining performance, prestige, and luxury into one single, no-compromise package. Now, they have introduced a new concept vehicle that may be the best example of this ideology yet.
The new Gran Coupe concept was introduced at the Beijing Auto Show and features a new, sleek design combined with a handful of iconic BMW traits. The unmistakable double kidney grill opens for the aggressive body lines that have been refined and accentuated to make a very clean, yet professional exterior.
The Gran Coupe's sizing will likely place it between the 5-Series and the 7-Series in BMW's lineup, which will assumedly be how the pricing is determined as well. Although there has been no official decision regarding production, it would make sense for BMW to move forward the new concept to compete directly with the CLS recently brought forward by Mercedes-Benz.
No engine or transmission options have been discussed, but with the recent push toward increasing fuel economy it would likely be a smaller turbocharged engine similar to the 335i and 535i.
More information should be available over the next few months.
