Each year since 1998, this festival has taken place in Austra and is the largest bodypainting event. Thousands of people show up each year to admire the work of these talented artists.
They also offer an Academy on the site, where they teach beginners to experts on the art of bodypainting and its techniques.

On the day of the festival, the artists start painting in the public park and are later judged by professionals. The artists compete in four categories; brush and sponge, airbrush, special effects and the World Fluoro Award, which is a contest at night for UV effects. For the World Fluoro contest, models are painted in fluorescent colors and are lit with backlights so that they glow while on stage.

The artists are free to use male or female models. All of the models have to be wearing some type of underpants while being painted, but female models are free to go topless.
This year the festival will be held in Austria on July 13-19th, 2009.

All of the work I’ve seen looks stunning. Has anyone ever been to the World Bodypainting Festival?
I think the world would be a happier place if people walked around with their bodies painted like this all the time. I’m sure there’d be less violence, because we’d be in awe staring at this artwork instead of picking fights with each other. Either that or there would be more injuries resulting from running into poles and walls while openly staring at these people. What do you think?
