Book My Ride! Order Your BMW i3 EV Online From Amazon Japan

Amazon Japan has begun listing BMW's i3 EV along with the usual books, DVDs, housewares and whatnot. While delivery via drone isn't in the offing – yet – the new service expands the German car company's profile while enhancing customer convenience.

Listings for two BMW i3 models (the regular EV and the i3 Range Extender) began appearing at Amazon Japan on April 1st... yeah, we know but since the listings are still valid and current it would seem the idea is no joke.

“We have 46 dealers (which sell the electric model) in Japan but we hope this e-selling will cover the entire market more thoroughly,” confirmed a spokesperson from BMW Japan to Yahoo News. “So many people are using the website; this will widen the sales channel and improve convenience for customers.”

Convenient it may be but Japanese car-buyers shouldn't expect the usual Amazon one-click shopping experience in this case. Vehicle ownership regulations in Japan demand EV-owners provide proof they (a) have a suitable parking place and (b) the ability to charge their vehicle. A BMW rep will phone buyers and request documentation ensuring they legally qualify.
