Carousel Goes Round and Round With Solar Power
A 36 foot solar powered carousel, designed by CRStudios Architects, recently opened up for rides at Hudson River Park's Chelsea Cove on Pier 62.
There are 33 hand-carved wood figures of animals native to the Hudson River Valley and one chariot on the carousel. There is enough space to solar spin up to 36 passengers, per ride. Over the carousel is a thin roof with a green roof of cacti as wells as solar panels. It all opens up to beautiful view of, "a large sprawling lawn and tree-lined pathways," (Hudson River Park).
The cost to ride the carousel is $2 per ride. One adult supervising a child less than 42 inches will not be charged for the ride. The concessions (food and beverages) are also child and eco-friendly.
