Chair Painting Livens Up Addidas Store In Bangkok
Ratinan Thaijareorn, a young Thai freelance painter and illustrator, was commissioned by Adidas to apply her artistic skills to a pair of library chairs for the Adidas Originals store in Bangkok.... And boy what a difference they made to the interior of the store! Now, we're not talking about just painting the wooden frames of the chairs; Thaijareorn used the upholstery of the chairs as her canvass!
Using acrylic paints, Thaijareorn created charming fantasy icons repeating them in pastel blues, greens, peaches, and yellows, as background for imaginary illustrations of children's animal heroes. Both chairs are crowned with large illustrations of female heroines on the chair backs.
Here are the original chairs. They are nicely crafted with full padding, decorative wooden legs and back, nicely tufted upholstery and, on the armchair, silhouetting metal studding. In ivory or light beige, they match the carpeting, but do nothing to invite costumers into the shop or even to sit down if costumers come in.

Thaijareorn's illustrated chairs may give you an inspiration to create your own one-of-a-kind chair - a DIY furniture project. Or perhaps, like me, you will look for a paint-by-number fabric.
