Clean Your Keyboard: The Virashield UV Sanitizer

I'm sure most of you have seen the studies- keyboards and cell phones generally contain more germs on their surface than a toilet seat. Kind of a disturbing statistic, if you think about it- we're putting our hands and faces on and against these things for what sometimes amounts to hours at a time. And the fact is, disinfectant wipes can only do so much. Sure, they get rid of bacteria, but...there's more than just bacteria lurking on our electronics.

A company called Virwall Systems believe it has the answer.

Released this month, Virashield is the brainchild of Doctor Jon Roberts and Doctor Donald Hetzel. It's a small twenty six by eleven by five inch device-it's designed so that it fits over a standard keyboard. To use it, all you need to do is place it over the electronic device (or devices) to be sterilized, turn it on, and wait for thirty seconds. Says Dr. Robots "The powerful germicidal 254 nm UV light will help protect you from the widest range of germs – including MRSA, E. coli and even swine flu, plus the usual suspects – staph, strep, influenza A, norovirus and more.”(Businesswire).

Not only is it more effective than a lot of disinfectant wipes and sprays, but it's also far more environmentally friendly. That's one of the selling points of Virashield, actually- the fact that it disinfects without requiring harsh or harmful chemicals to do so. I'd say that's a point in its favor..and so would a lot of folks. The innovative new product's already won several awards, and received a number of positive reviews.

And, naturally, you can use it to disinfect a lot more than just electronics. You can utilize it for...well, pretty much anything that has germs on it,really.

The Virashield's got a retail price of $249.00. That might seem a bit steep, but consider- it'll eventually pay for itself with the money you're going to save on disinfectant sprays, wipes, solutions, et-cetera. If you want one of your own, just swing by the Virwall Systems website
