Comfort From A Toaster: Grilled Cheese In A Bag

If there is one comfort food that most of us love, especially during the winter, it is a grilled cheese sandwich. Especially when accompanied by a bowl of tomato soup. The big problem is that it can take some serious time to get it all together. With Toaster Grilled Cheese Bags you can make your sandwiches in the toaster quickly and easily.

Because you are using a bag in the toaster you are also saving all of the fat that is normally added from grilling. I don't know about you, but I often find my sandwiches a bit greasy and this would be a great way to avoid that. The bags are coated with Teflon so that things aren't going to stick either. This is also a great way to reheat leftover pizza or warm pita bread. What a perfect way to make a meal on the fly!

Each of these bags can be used up to 50 times and are a snap to clean. Just wash in soapy water, rinse, and set to dry. It is recommended that you allow the bags to dry thoroughly before the next use. They come 3 to a package, so that's about 150 sandwiches. According to Anna Moreno, who reviewed this item for Uncommon Goods, she wished that it was 4 for those 4 slotted toasters

One of the things that you will miss is a nice, warm buttery flavor that will be lost by not pan frying. You can experiment with adding butter after the sandwich comes out. You will also need to do some experimentation to find just the right setting on your toaster to get your sandwich just right.

Moreno found that buttering the bread before had caused the bread to burn (shades of my usual grilling), but they were still tasty. Applying a bit of butter to the outside afterward might be the answer. That one is up to you to try. She also experimented with adding other things to the sandwich -- in this case fresh basil and sun-dried tomatoes. This also came out well. Personally I would try adding a thin slice of ham or two.

She said that the sandwiches from the sleeves did not totally match up to the traditional grilled cheese, but that they were tasty and easy to make. I'm in!
