Patent#US 6854374 was created in 2005 and it is an honest and clever attempt to deal with terrorism which is, unfortunately, always in our midst. The invention is essentially a Kevlar umbrella that can be shot at suicide bombers for the purpose of incapacitating them and containing the explosion. The Explosion Containment Net is also very versatile as it can be used effectively against the yellow terror known as public urination.
The above illustration depicting the Explosion Containment Net does appear to have mistaken a flower child of the 1960s for a terrorist but perhaps that is just a sleight of pen. One reviewer warned airport authorities that she was carrying a flower onboard the plane and wasn’t afraid to use it.
The Explosion Containment Net is made from an explosive-resistant material, such as KEVLAR, and is thrown over an explosive-laden device. The net has a nozzle that is connected to a fire suppressant agent as well as a high density foam, each of which are discharged through the nozzle once the net is thrown over the explosive-laden device. The fire suppressant and the high density foam minimize the blast force of the device. The net can be thrown manually or can be fired from a gun that uses either pneumatic force or a firing cartridge to propel the net at its target.
Airport security is a source of inspiration for many modern inventors. Consider “Airport Security Is Now In the Hands of Children” and “Explosives and Bombs: New Detection Devices for a Safer Future” .
I don’t know about you, but in my opinion, as far as the Explosion Containment Net goes, I all I can say is:
Bombs a-w-a-a-a--y !
