Receipts now 'bad for your health': image via htoh.wordpress.com You know that what leads to getting a receipt (the purchase) can be bad for your health. Spending money these days can certainly lead to ulcers. But now studies have found that receipts are even worse for your health!
They can cause cancer!
It's not the agita that they create, because saving them for the tax man is usually a good thing, if you can write them off. It's actually the receiving and saving them that causes trouble.
You see the Environmental Working Group has found that 40 percent of receipts they tested contained BPA, the same BPA that environmental and public health officials have been concerned about in plastic drinking glasses, dinnerware, and many children's items that can come in contact with the mouth.
BPA mixed with dye is used to create black print on many receipts used by merchants. You can get a BPA receipt from almost anywhere, even the U.S. House of Representatives cafeteria.
What's the big deal? Well, let me remind you that BPA has been linked to breast cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and many other health problems. It can come in contact with your food, while resting against it in your shopping bags. Handling the receipts can contaminate the food you put in your mouth if you don't wash your hands before eating. And then, of course, you touch them regularly when your sorting out your taxes.
Be careful. This is just one more unhealthy environmental exposure to deal with.
