I love recycling fundraisers, but schools hesitate participating in recycling fundraisers because they often don't produce a lot of money and they require a lot of work on the schools part. Junk food and cheap holiday gifts make a quicker buck. This year I'm emailing information about The Dream Machine Recycle Rally to my daughters' principal. Maybe the incentives mentioned below will be mind changing.
"The Dream Machine Recycle Rally is part of the larger Dream Machine program - a collaboration between PepsiCo, Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful, utilizing www.greenopolis.com" (Dream Machine Recycle Rally) searching for schools everywhere to help collect non-alcoholic plastic bottles and aliminum cans to recycle.
It is completely free to participate in the program and by participating schools can earn rewards as well as a chance to win large prizes. Students in grades K-12 can collect beverage containers (plastic bottles and aluminum cans- non-alcoholic) and bring them to the school. The more the students collect the more points they earn. The points are redeemable for rewards: books, videos, music and more from local businesses.
In addition, every month, from December 2010 through April 2011, the schools with the highest number of bottles and cans collected per student during the month will be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win one of two $5,000 Green Leader prizes. The school with the highest average number of bottles and cans collected per student from December 1, 2010 through April 30, 2011, will win the Dream Green School Makeover grand prize package, $100,000 in funding for green school improvements. Examples of green school improvements include: planting trees around the school, low-energy printers and copiers and installing solar panels.
The bottles and cans recycled through this program will provide support to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for post-9/11 Veterans with Disabilities.
