Nobody knows the truffles I’ve seen. ~ Anonymous
Many things are edible in the world as we know it today but clothing is one thing that has at least up to now not been considered as such. Apart from the expression, “I’ll eat my hat,” we never associate food with clothing except in the context of dry-cleaning bills, or if we eat too much we know that we won’t be able to ft into it.

In keeping with that context, meet Patent# US 6872119, which concerns Garments Having Edible Components and Methods for Making Same. The way it works is sort of simple. Any garment can be made to contain edible components by stringing edible items such as candies onto portions of the said fabric such as the waistbands of panties, bikinis, etc. You can really get creative and make the candy reflect specific holidays or events such as hearts for Valentine’s Day and shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day.
Believe it or not, one aspect of this invention, which is in the form of a kit, allows for the garments to be re-used, with or without the option of re-threading the edible candies. It is this aspect above all others that makes this invention not only truly silly but also truly unique. So if your underwear yearns for another life in another form, tell your unmentionables to be patient, for all is possible for those who dream.
Other inventions on the topic of unexpected edibles include; thinkoutsidethe’s clever piece, “Edible Snow Globe Kit.” and Michelle’s “Chocolate Billboard: Inventive Marketing."
Have fun exploring this new edible venue, but please…count me out!
