Window treatments can be expensive and not always practical, depending on the particular exposure being covered. This is especially true for oddly shaped or large picture windows and sliding glass doors. Finding something that works with the look you’re trying to achieve but that also remains practical is often difficult. Additionally, blinds and drapes do little to cut energy bills or protect your furniture from harmful UV rays that still manage to sneak in. Electric I-Glass and I-Film provide an excellent alternative, even for interior use.

Electric I-Glass

So, what is Electric I-Glass? It’s a glass by a company called Electric Display that has special film in it that changes from clear to a frosted opaque at the press of a wireless remote button. It can also be controlled from a wall switch. Either way, once you engage the product, your windows go from see through to completely private in a second or less. It can also be used for interior glass walls. As an added bonus, once in privacy mode the glass and film can be used for high definition back images and movie projections.

I-Glass Films

There are numerous types of internal films available for the I-Glass ranging from single to double to triple glazed, fire rated, laminated, tinted, shaped and more. The nice thing is these films still allow filtered light into a room even when the translucent privacy mode has been initiated. Think of them as transition lenses for eyeglasses but for windows. Whether it’s on or off the film shields you and your belongings from 99.5 percent of harmful UV rays for lasting protection.

I-Films

If you’re wondering if there is a difference between the film used in the I-Glass and the I-Film products, the answer is no. It’s just that the I-Glass is made for you by incorporating the film inside the double glazed or laminated glass or by having the film applied to the surface to achieve what’s called toughened glass. The I-Film is the same film used with the glass but simply as a self-adhesive film ready to apply to your glass. It’s slightly less expensive to purchase the I-Film independently, but it’s said to be more difficult to install than the glass itself.

Custom Windows

Electric Display Co. can manufacture what’s called “slimline” powder coated aluminum channels or frames for you in white or grey. If you need stainless steel custom frames, they can usually do that, too. And while they ship worldwide, they are located in the U.K. and they prefer to meet on site to discuss such jobs. In order to work electronically, two sides of the Electric I-Glass need to be supported by frames of some sort, but the other two can remain frameless with polished edges.

I-Technology Features

Besides people not being able to see into your home when the product is engaged, Electric I-Glass and I-Films reduce energy costs and noise by approximately 36 decibels. The films can also be custom tinted and shaped to preference and include images and logos that will appear when in privacy mode. Once installed, you can have an electrician customize your wall switch with a dimmer option as well.

While the cutting-edge glass and film are not cheap, chances are you’ll save money in the long run with these aesthetically pleasing products. You can visit their website for a complete listing of their services and products for more details.
