The Electric Car King Tut Would Be Proud Of

Dreams are usually the driving force behind creation. (Laziness comes in a close second.) So when Greg Zanis and his sons began planning a unique kind of new car, it was only a matter of time until it became a reality.

Their vehicle, appropriately named the "Dream-Car" is a prototype of an electric Hybrid they hope to someday move into production. It uses a total of 80 batteries to power 4 electric motors. The little pyramid can only seat a single person, but still weighs in at over 8,000 lbs.

According to Mr. Zanis, he is able to get the vehicle up to a top speed of 45mph and has a range of about 80 miles on a single 4 hour charge. Although the Dream-Car is interesting to look at, the included features are even more attention-grabbing. A single piece wrap around bumper keeps you from doing too much damage to the surprisingly fragile car. Power is applied to all 4 wheels that use gel-filled tires to absorb rough roads and stopping is provided by an electric braking system. Some neon lights are also included to add to the effect.

All told, the Dream-Car set the Father-Son Trio back $60,000, plus untold man-hours. They are currently in the process of seeking backers to provide about $40,000 more to design a Mark-2 version.
