Fashion and technology design firm Electrofoxy has created a new level of portable music integration with their Zip concept design jacket.
Jackets which feature musical controls are hardly new - almost every Yoga hoodie or snowboarding jacket on the market now contains at the very least a pocket and cord-hole for portable electronic devices and many feature mimicries of device controls inside pockets or hoods to allow the user to more directly control their experience.
Now, the Zip by Electrofoxy hopes to not only err on the sexy side of jacket making, but create a product that needs no extra steps to work, no action other than that which comes naturally.
Instead of creating lined pockets or duplicated controls, the Zip takes the volume aspect of music and ties it to its namesake - the zipper. Zipping the jacket up will increase the volume coming from the built-in headphones, and unzipping it will lower the decibels pumping into your ears. From the video on the Electrofoxy Website, it appears that this is done through wireless integration with the music device of your choice and that the volume control zipper has quite a bit of sensitivity, allowing for a range of musical accompaniment.
Technology and sexy: meshing as they should.
The Zip design is slated to go into production soon and is intended to keep the distinct circuit pattern as seen on the front right breast panel, as well as offer a level of stylish sex appeal that is lacking in most other jackets of a similar type.
We're fairly certain this would sell a boatload of garments for Electrofoxy if it actually makes it to market, but we do have to wonder about listening to music on a warm day - maybe you don't really want to zip up your coat but would love to have the music at greater than a zero volume, and hope that the Zip will include a feature to adjust the volume in the event that the temperature and your listening pleasure do not mesh well.
Small nitpicks aside, the Zip has sexy sound written all over it.
