Tree Shoulder
Crystal Morey is an artist that creates lovely fairy-like sculptures.
Blue Chalcedony
Crystal received her BFA in Ceramics from the California College of the Art in 2006. Going from an RA in the college dorms to a studio assistant to various artists, her work has been featured in many exhibits and publications.
Like Barnacles on a Boat
From her statement: “I am interested in beauty found through sorrow and stress, in knowledge derivative of experience. My intention is to explore the human experience of emotion, environment, and relation. I want to show these elements through my figures as a way to further understand life’s duration.”
The Horse Died Standing Up
Her sculptures are made of ceramic and each work has a kind of haunting quality to it. Many of her sculptures seem to have a sad faraway look to them, like they are aching to tell their story.
Castle
In Forest
Treeode
Tramp Stamp
Sugilite Rings
These sculptures remind me of a fairy-like forest, where the pixies run free in their own little world. I like the use of color in each one combined with the sorrowful looks on their faces. It really makes them stand out.
What is your opinion of Crystal’s art? What story do you think they have to tell?
Many thanks to Crystal Morey!
