Want Food As Your Accessory? Try SouZouCreations Miniature Food Jewelry
Plastic food is big in Japan, claims Sofia Molnar, owner of SouZou Creations on Etsy. Molnar creates rings, earrings, pendants and other jewelry featuring miniature food items.
The Japanese kawaii movement inspired her designs. Kawaii means cute or kitschy in Japanese, and these jewelry bits fit that description.
Most of the SouZou Creations depict combinations of food. Each is intricately hand crafted using plastic, wood, metal and glue. SouZou will customize jewelry to represent a favorite food of special meal.
The artist is Canadian, living in Japan and selling her products on Etsy. In Japan, life-size food replicas sit outside many restaurants to lure in customers.
Japanese food is often served exactingly arranged to highlight colors and qualities. The choice of plate or dish is vital. Molnar says she does the same when assembling her small plastic food pieces.
The SouZou miniature food rings have a large American and Japanese following. They are fun, beautiful and affordable. The food is affixed to a silver-toned adjustable ring band that measures approximately 3 cm wide.
We're not sure we could walk around all day looking at food on our hands without breaking the diet. What do you think about food as jewelry, or jewelry as food?
