Need A Buzz? Grow Your Own Coffee!

You don't have to move to Latin America or Africa to grow your own coffee. You can do it right there in the comfort of your home with a Grow Your Own Coffee kit. You won't exactly be giving Starbucks a run for the money, but it is a fun idea for coffee addicts and caffeine addicted gardeners. Since Starbucks has just raised its prices maybe it is time for you to drink the brew you grew.

Coffee drinkers love that special smell, warmth, and flavor, not to mention the pick-me-up. For many it is love in a cup. It seems to do this all for the soul as well as for the body. It is what starts the day. It is what warms the winter. Oh, coffee! But I wax poetic.

The Grow Your Own Coffee kit comes with everything you need to do just that. The packaging is a miniature greenhouse. The included instructions will get you on the way. The seeds will sprout in 3-4 weeks, however, getting your plants to the point of actually producing coffee "cherries" is going to take quite a bit longer. You can always sip your Folgers and dream though.

The plants will develop shiny dark green leaves and white fragrant flowers. Here's the kicker though -- coffee plants can grow 6 to 15 feet tall. So they eventually outgrow their little greenhouse and start taking over your life. Feed me, Seymour!

Each plant produces about one pound of beans. If you are really into coffee and/or plants this would be right up your alley. This is a way to really get in touch with your coffee and what it goes through to make it into your cup.
