This Hanukkah Bring Your Menorah Into The 21st Century!

It is nearly time to light the candles again for Jews all over the world. Of course this can be a fire hazard -- especially for those with a klutz in the house. So it may just be time to go digital -- well, sort of. This cute 8-Bit Light-Up Menorah will allow you to stay safe from fire AND totally geek up your Hanukkah! Live long and play with your dreidel.

The photos here show the menorah with all of the candles lit up, but the great thing about this candelabrum is that it has nine buttons on the base so that there are separate switches for each candle and the shames (that's the ninth candle, or helper candle). This way you can do each night of Hanukkah properly as you utter those timeless words of prayer:

"Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech Ha-Olam, asher kiddeshanu b'mitzvotav, vitzivanu, lehadlik ner shel Hanukkah."

Or, for those of us who do not speak Hebrew:

"Blessed are You, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has sanctified us with Your commandments, and has commanded us to kindle the lights of Hanukkah."

Each of those candle flames is actually an LED light and the menorah itself is made of plastic. After hundreds of years of religious history we finally have the technology to make the cheapest possible menorah ever. Insert your own politically incorrect joke here. Okay, one part of this may not be so cheap. It runs off of two AAA batteries. Since they won't last you for even an hour you need new batteries for each night. At least they will get you through the prayer and then you can turn on the lights and enjoy your latkes in peace.

You could consider this the menorah to have while you are single. Or it can be your child's own menorah. I look at it this way -- this is the menorah that I don't have to spend hours polishing the tarnished fingerprints off of repeatedly because I forget and actually touch it. Yeah, I know. I'm not Jewish. It is a long story. . . for another time.

This menorah is also a great one to set up at work as well. The last thing you need is to lose your job because you burned the place down. Also, it is geeky enough that some people just won't get that it is really a symbol of your religious faith.

With love from your meshugena shiksa friend -- me.
