So I was poking around at Interbike's website for an upcoming article on wild, weird bike designs when I stumbled across this little gem. It's not exactly a new product as it launched last year, but it's definitely an innovative and fun product worthy of a spot here on Inventor Spot.
It's called Hoo Ha Ride Glide cream. And if you're wondering that's hoo ha as in lady privates, not "Hoo Haa!!" as in Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman. It's a chamois cream designed specifically for ladies.
Now if you don't know what chamois cream is (I certainly didn't), it's a type of cream that serious cyclists use to keep their junk (and lady junk) lubricated and friction free to prevent chafing, saddle sores and other nasty, painful ailments that come with sitting on a hard, triangular bike saddle day in and day out.
Apparently, men's chamois cream--and let's face it, most sports equipment is designed with men as the default--doesn't quite give the ladies the comfort and protection they'd like.
The company explains in a statement: "HOO HA RIDE GLIDE was developed by women athletes who needed a skin cream formulated for their most girlie parts. They searched high and low and only found a cream for nuts….a woman’s needs are different, so they created HOO HA RIDE GLIDE."
The cream protects from chafing, sores, bacteria and other risks of the trade. It's made by Reflect Sports and comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, including this 8 ounce tube. If you're a guy, this could make a thoughtful gift for the female cyclist in your life. And if you're a lady, a healthy cooch is reason enough. You can get this cream here on Amazon.
EDITOR'S NOTE: If you want something a little more traditional, the Blue Steele Chafing Cream gets rave reviews at Amazon. Monistat also has a well reviewed cream especially formulated for women.
