Hot Dog! Super Long & Heavy Sausage Really Cuts The Mustard
How do you know your country's risen into the ranks of the world's leading nations? Well, one way is to make the news by way of some (insert superlative here) food creation. Then, of course, you invite everyone in town to come on over and consume said creation. BYOB... and a lot of Alka Seltzer.
Take this spectacular horse meat sausage, for instance. It used to neigh, now it weighs... 1,256 kilos, or 2,769 pounds!
An ethnic Kazak horse meat butcher with a lot of time on his hands – and obviously, a lot of horse meat – managed to squeeze thigh meat from eight 5-year-old horses through 213 meters (almost 700 feet) of natural casing sourced from 30 horses. Now that takes guts!
The monster sausage was created on January 23, 2011 in the town of Yining located in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Humongous as it is, the sinuous stallion sausage falls limp compared to the current Guinness World Record holder: a 2,022 meter (6,633 foot) long sausage made last summer at the 22nd annual sausage festival held in the Montenegrin village of Turija. No word on who baked the world's biggest bun to complement it. (via China Daily)
