Let There Be Light, And Let There Be Music.
Inventors and product designers come up with all sorts of cool gadgets every day all over the world. Alarm clocks that roll away from you, human mobile phones, robotic spies that can hide from humans--and then there are the more functional gadgets that we would most likely be using right in our very own homes: light bulbs that can give us a serving of our favorite music on the side.
Yep, that's right. These gadgets light up your room and also function as speakers so you can enjoy your music in any room without having to install an all-around sound system or carry around a music player when you go from one area to the next. Here are two of the ones we found that are already available commercially:
The Klipsch LightSpeaker actually made its debut last year and won the 2010 CES Innovations Award. These aren't the prettiest audio light bulbs in town but they still provide the same functionality that you're looking for: light and audio in one gadget.
The LightSpeaker comes with a standalone transmitter as well as a remote to control playback. It can fit into 5 and 6-inch light fixtures that are fitted with Edison sockets, so like the Hammacher Audio Light Bulb, you can just take out any other light bulb you have and replace it with this. The speaker uses a 20-watt low-distortion amplifier to deliver good quality and energy efficient sound. The LED bulb is rated for 40,000 hours of use and can last for over 15 years. It has also been found to reduce daily lighting expenses by over 80% because it only uses 10 watts to produce a brightness equivalent to what a 65-watt light bulb can produce. How's that for efficiency and functionality?
The Hammacher Audio Light Bulb is a wireless speaker that look and functions as a light bulb. It's easy to install and the company behind it says that it can be installed unobtrusively within any recessed can light receptacle. That's pretty convenient because you don't need to make any huge renovations or changes to install this nifty gadget. The Audio Light Bulb comes with a transmitter where you can dock your iPhone or iPod Touch in. You can also hook up your other music players because the transmitter also comes with an auxiliary port for other audio inputs.
The Hammacher Audio Light Bulb has integrated LEDs that provide the same brightness as a 60-watt light bulb would. The bulb can be installed up to 50 feet away from the transmitter and still provide good quality sounds and crisp audio. A total of eight audio light bulbs can be supported. You can get the Audio Light Speakers from Hammacher.
