Interactive Valentine Heart Needs YOU To Hold It Up!
The 2011 annual Times Square Valentine competition has been won by a 10 foot diameter, 50 pound heart, a creation of the design group Freecell, in collaboration with architect Peter Dorsey. 'Light Hearted' needs you and 2,599 others to help hold it up over Times Square in an extended celebration of Valentine's Day, February 10th through 20th. If you will be in New York City, don't miss this opportunity!
Sponsored by the Times Square Alliance Public Art Program, the Times Square Valentine competition acknowledged both the superb architectural form of the design and the concept of Light Hearted bringing people together from many cultures, nationalities, and walks of life to work in synchrony to hold up the heart above Times Square.
The heart will float about 10 feet above the crowd so it can be seen throughout the Square and attract people to it to participate. The frame is constructed of a light weight aluminum that elliptically loops the open weave red fabric that allows the wind to pass through. The fabric catches light during the day and at night, it is brightly lit by light emitting diodes.
To sign up for a 15 minute shift to hold up Light Hearted, visit the Times Square Light Hearted website.
Will you settle for 15 minutes of loving? Your share is only 8 pounds, and if you become tired, someone will be there to take your place! The dates are February 10 to February 20, 2011... It's waiting for you!
