Invention Of The Week? PIVOT Is A Game-Changing Wearable For Tennis

A company based in Campbell, California, has come up with a clever invention that will help any tennis player improve their game, and provide even more opportunities to aspiring players who enjoy their time on the court.

TurningSense, a Silicon Valley pioneer of wearable sports technology, has developed PIVOT.

“Tennis, throughout its centuries-old history, hasn’t fully harnessed the power of technology to elevate playing and training – until now,” explains its team of inventors. “TurningSense created PIVOT to fill this gap. It’s the world’s first wearable for tennis with innovative multi-sensor, fully body motion analysis that helps you master complex movements, avoid injuries and conquer the competition.”

Even better is that PIVOT utilizes Nick Bollettieri’s training techniques into its coaching plan. Bollettieri is a legend in the world of tennis as he has helped develop some huge stars on the court, like Boris Becker, Andre Agassi, Anna Kournikova, and Venus Williams and Serena Williams, to name a handful.

This wearable technology allows you get detailed data on your serves, swings, footwork, body positioning, generation of power, and so much more.

So Where Do You Want To Pivot?

What makes PIVOT so unique is that it utilizes a variety of sensors that recreates movements of each joint and entire body. Each sensor attaches to different parts of the body or clothing and its app provides immediate biomechanical feedback so that tennis players – amateur and professionals alike – can better improve their swings and moves.

With PIVOT there are no expensive cameras or tedious wire-hookups – you just attach the sensors and they record your body movements, and on review with your coach you will get all the right tips to improve your game.

Each sensor is about the size of an acorn and weighs about the same, so you won’t even notice them on your body.

Each sensor, which is attached to your body and clothes with a Velcro strap, communicates wirelessly, and its main Hub sensor collects and transmits your motion data to a cloud based system, all within a matter of seconds. You can view your sessions in real-time or access them later.

Your body movements on the courts are recorded by 9-axis sensors and each sensor is equipped with an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer to process nearly 1000 data samples from movements per second. Simply put, PIVOT will capture all of your movements while you are out breaking a sweat and working for a win.

PIVOT provides an accurate 360 degree replay of every stroke and accurately records your overall performance in fine detail.  PIVOT’s 3D playback takes high-tech-motion-capturing-technology to a whole new level – it never misses any details.

The technology is also ideal for remote coaching. When all your data is stored on a cloud it is also immediately available on mobile devices, which means that your coach who is on the other side of town or in another part of the world can provide you with instant and important feedback.

Stay On Top Of Your Game

Bollettieri, who has been coaching tennis for the last 60 years, says this new technology is a unique system that lets other users and coaches integrate their own training advice and techniques.

“For decades, I've been looking for ways to use technology to capture my teachings and to make them available to more than just those in the upper echelons of the tennis world,” says Bollettieri.

“When I met TurningSense, and saw what PIVOT could do, I knew I had found what I was looking for. I've dedicated my life to helping players enjoy and improve in the sport of tennis. Through PIVOT, I'm excited to be able to share my tennis knowhow and techniques with a much larger swath of tennis players spanning all ages, abilities, geographies and time zones. Now I can share my techniques with everyone, wherever they are in the world.”

So, don’t be surprised when you are finished up your tennis game and you get a text from Bollettieri. It just might read: “Hey Kid, you’re a real up-and-comer. Serve it. Smash it. Win it. Love it. Now work on your split step.”

PIVOT retails for $499.00.

Will we see technology like PIVOT used in other sports?
