Electrolux Icon® and Interior Design® Magazine have announced the winners of their 2008 contest for the best kitchen design. Architectural designers were challenged to come up with designs for a kitchen that would meet the needs of a modern family.
Grand Prize Winner, Kitchen Design
Marcello Zuffo of Ft. Lauderdale, FL won the Grand Prize in the Electrolux Kitchen Design Contest for his design of a kitchen with movable components. It looks pretty easy to install, doesn't it? Zuffo won $50,000 in cash and $25,000 in Electrolux appliances for winning the Grand Prize. His kitchen design will be featured in the March 2009 issue of Interior Design.
Second Prize Kitchen Design Winners
Kim Letven and Nada Bibi of WE Design in Brooklyn, NY, took second place with a kitchen that's well integrated with social space. The wide openings at the kitchen entrances flow into a living area on one side and the home patio on the other (sliding glass door at right). The eating area is also well integrated. WE Design was awarded $25,000 in Electrolux appliances.
Third Prize Kitchen Design Winner
Gisue Hariri of Hariri & Hariri Architecture, New York, NY won Third Prize for the modern aesthetics and efficient use of space in her kitchen design. Wouldn't you just love to have all that shelf and counter space in your kitchen? Ms. Hariri won $10,000 in Electrolux appliances.
Entries were judged by Cindy Allen, editor-in-chief of Interior Design magazine; Calvin Tsao, founding partner of Tsao & McKown in New York City; Laura Bohn, founder of Laura Bohn Design Associates in New York City; Jackie Naylor, founder of Jackie Naylor Interiors in Atlanta; and Henrik Otto, senior vice president of Global Design at Electrolux.
