LED Light Bulb Card Is A Shining Example Of Miniaturization

Is that a light bulb in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me? The answer is both! This portable pop-up LED light bulb shines cool white light when you need it, then folds flat like a credit card when you don't.

The wonder of miniaturization has made a number of useful devices so thin and flat they can be carried in wallets, purses and pockets as unobtrusively as a credit card. Calculators, magnifying lenses and now light bulbs have gotten flat for our benefit.

The LED Light Bulb Pocket Card is about an eighth of an inch (0.3cm) thick, and it's made of tough yet flexible plastic. It'll take a beating inside your wallet and still light up when you need it, even after being sat on for hours - just try that with a regular incandescent light bulb - actually, don't.

Though tiny battery-powered lights have been available as keychains for some time now, their main drawbacks are the narrow beams they emit when a button is pushed and held down. Fine if you're trying to find your car door lock or house lock in the dark but not when you need a stand-alone, diffuse light source.

The LED Light Bulb Pocket Card is ideal for late night studying, fixing a household gadget in a dimly lit area, and probably a ton of other uses I can't think of at the moment. And hey - it looks like a flattened light bulb... cute AND cool!

The LED Light Bulb Pocket Card measures 3.44 by 2.12 by 1/8 inches (8.6 x 5.3 x 0.3cm). They can be ordered online for about $7.75 each. It runs on a single CR1216 battery (included) and the backing cards are available in 9 different colors. A bright idea indeed!

Editor's Update: The LED Light Bulb Pocket Card is now available in the U.S. You can find the LED Light Bulb Card at Amazon here and at other major U.S. retailers.
