LED Toothbrush Shines The Light On Dental Health

"You, light up my mouth..." Sorry for dusting off that old 80s chestnut but by illuminating one's mouth, the Beldente LED toothbrush adds light to your life as well. The integrated LED is rated for 5 million hours though the AA batteries that power it won't last quite that long.

You may be wondering why anyone would want to, to use an analogy, brush their teeth with a glorified flashlight. Well, this isn't your garden-variety LED light - the 400 ~ 750nm wavelength has an inhibitory effect on the pathogen that causes periodontal disease.

Beldente also points out that the LED light is very bright (though not hot) and can be used as an emergency light source. Now that's a scene I'd like to see!

Beldente sells the LED toothbrush through online retailer Rakuten for 5,980 yen (about $65) and also offers a complementary toothpaste (for 1,480 yen or $16) that contains Vitamine E and Xylitol, and which is supposed to work best at keeping those nasty periodontal germs at bay. fatal flaw

It costs $65 yet doesn't have replaceable heads - unbelievable.

I won't mind

I won't mind if it also helps to prevent periodontal disease. But $65 dollars on its own, that's very steep.
