Lomography just announced the first version of the free LomoScanner App, which is now available for
download in the iTunes App Store. Designed to be used with the
Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner, the LomoScanner App allows you to
scan 35mm film with your iPhone. The App also includes a feature for quickly scanning and stitching panoramic photos and for animating movies shot with the Lomokino camera.
With this app you can scan all types of 35mm film (including color/black and white negative as well as slides) and stitch together 35mm panoramas.
Lomography underscored the fact that this is the first version of the LomoScanner App, but wanted to launch it as soon as possible and get feedback from end users. The app will be optimized based on their input. If you encounter any issues or have suggestions for the app, make sure to contact Lomography at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Android users, you haven't been ignored. An Android version of the app will be announced soon. In the meantime you can play around with some of these Android photo apps.
Of course, to use this app you will need to have the Lomography Smartphone Scanner ($59) to begin with. But at this price, it won't hurt to get this interesting contraption and start scanning those film strips and slides your dad keeps in a shoe box in his closet. You might even be tempted to borrow his old Minolta camera and run some rolls of film through it.
You can always go buy some inexpensive Lomography cameras if you really get hooked on this film shooting thing.
