A Marketing Solution for the Projected "Death of Magazines"

We have all heard the prediction that the growth of the Internet is going to lead to the death of printed magazines.

With large magazines, such as Life, switching completely to e-versions only, other magazines are reaching for alternatives to survive.

For example, Rolling Stone is now completely free. In order to keep up with the popularity of the Internet, print media publications are doing all they can in order to stay afloat. Rolling Stone recently announced readers will now have full access to digital copies of the magazine online, for free.

Another alternative? Just give your magazine away for free!

Wired Magazine, who already has amazing blogs to supplement their print media, is giving away free copies of the March 2008 edition. 10,000 copies of the free issue were given out.

What do you think? Do you think there will ever be a "death of magazines?" Do you think alternatives such as free editions online or distribution of free hard copies will be successful?

What other methods have you heard magazines use to help avoid "death?"
