Mercedes-Benz is about to put the brakes on its gorgeous Mercedes SLS AMG GT. With the bodacious Final Edition, MB's ensuring their motorized masterpiece goes out with a bang and not a whimper. The penultimate vehicle in the awe-inspiring SLS series is expected to debut its swan song performance at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the Tokyo Motor Show.
Collectors will note that besides being named the Mercedes SLS AMG GT Final Edition, this is also a limited edition: only 350 units are slated for production. It's not been determined the split between red & black Coupes and white & black Roadsters but all 350 will carry special Limited Edition plaques in their interiors.
Power comes courtesy of a naturally-aspirated, mid-front mounted 6.3-liter V8 engine rated at 583 horsepower and 479 lb ft of torque. Speed, obviously, is not an issue and neither is slowing down thanks to disc brakes flashing red six-piston calipers.
A rear-mounted 7-speed AMG Speedshift DCT (dual-clutch transmission) transaxle works with the engine to produce consistent 3.6 second sprints from 0 to 60mph, and the positioning of these components contributes to a 47:53 front/rear weight balance.
Like the standard Mercedes SLS AMG GT Coupe and Roadster - “standard” seems inappropriate for such an exemplary automobile – the Final Edition's backbone is an aluminum spaceframe crafted over the course of 30 hours is 90 percent hand-assembled to ensure unmatched quality control.
Pricing, for those so uncouth as to ask, is yet to be announced but count on a substantial premium being added to the Coupe's $201,500 sticker and the Roadster's $208,000. (via Uncrate, AutoGuide, and Kajgana)
