Mitsubishi Will Join the Electric Sports Car Race
While electric vehicles have become an everyday topic for most automakers, all electric sports cars have yet to become mainstream. Dodge recently unveiled the Circuit to the world and Mitsubishi may be next, with a sportier version of the i MiEV slated to be introduced at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
The sporty EV will be based on the same platform the previously introduced i MiEV electric hatchback. The body will remain the same for the most part as will many of the components that make up the drivetrain. The only real addition to the vehicle will be a larger electric motor, up from 63 horsepower that is able to produce much more torque instantly.
Solar panels will offer additional range and a glass panel roof should provide a nice view of the scenery. On a normal charge, the standard i MiEV is said to go about 100 miles. The sport EV should be able to go roughly the same distance, assuming you don't have a heavy foot.
Mitsubishi hasn't said much in the way of production, but the i MiEV is set to go on sale in 2010, so if the more powerful version does hit the streets, expect it sometime in 2011 or 2012.
