Need This New Innovation: Fluffy Monster Chair
Who wouldn't want a giant fluffy, furry round monster taking up some corner of their of their home? Well, okay, there are some people who are so conservative that they wouldn't want this in their home, but to be honest, I don't know very many of them. The is a wonderfully amusing piece of functional art by Singaporean designer Jason Goh, and comes from one of his childhood daydreams.
When Goh was a little boy in Singapore he tended to play with his food -- even his favorite fish balls. Growing exasperated with him, his grandmother would tell him to stop playing and eat. Finally she told him that if he didn't hurry and eat them they would become a giant hairy monster and eat him instead.
Naturally this intrigued the little boy's mind and he would imagine just what that would be like. Now grown and with a degree in design from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, he has the knowledge and skills to have brought the fish ball monster to "life" in chair form.
The chair is a giant furry ball with a mouth. There is even a soft red tongue to complete the picture. To sit in it you just climb in the mouth. It is a great place to curl up for a little solitude or with a good book.
Though the round shape looks like it might be given to rolling over, Goh makes use of the same technology that keep Roly-Poly toys upright. It is something that appeals to the child in all of us.
The only problem I really see with the chair (other than it wouldn't fit in my house) is that I would constantly have to fight with the cat over who gets to use it.
