New LED Flashlight Can Charge Your Cell Phone

Japanese eco electronics leader Greenhouse has announced a mobile phone charger LED flashlight, model number GH-BTK-31LK, which will go on sale this summer for 1,480 yen (about $16.50).

The GH-BTK-31LK comes with 4 white LED lights that put out a brightness level of 81 lumens. When used as a flashlight the device will stay lit for about 90 minutes. It's the GH-BTK-31LK's other qualities that make it special, though.

Attach the included adapter to the business end of the flashlight and connect it to the charge port of your depleted cell phone. Turn on the flashlight and wait 80 minutes for a full charging that will allow 45 minutes worth of phone communication.

The GH-BTK-31LK is made of black anodized aluminum, measures 20 × 85mm (4/5" x 3.5") in width by length and weighs 20 grams or around 7/10 of an ounce.

It's only usable with Japanese cell phones, unfortunately, as the adapter is designed to be compatible with Docomo and Softbank phones. The release date is expected to be sometime in August of 2010 (via Impress Watch)

Editor's Note: This flashlight charger is not yet available in the U.S. However, a well-reviewed cell phone charger with hand crank LED flashlight is available here.
