Nissan Self-Cleaning Car Features Innovative “Ultra-Ever Dry” Paint
Nissan's slogan is “Innovation That Excites” and their latest innovation is exciting indeed: “Ultra-Ever Dry” paint that repels water, oil and dirt. While this is great news for car owners, car wash operators might worry they're being given the brush-off.
The new paint formulation is said to be “super-hydrophobic and oleophobic” thus repelling water-borne and oil-borne contaminants. It accomplishes this by creating a microscopically thin layer of air just above the car's bodywork.
The invisible protective barrier in effect separates the paint from the surrounding environment. Check out this video from Nissan Europe showing the paint undergoing real world testing.
“We are committed to addressing everyday problems our customers face,” states Geraldine Ingham, Chief Marketing Manager for Nissan Note, “and will always consider testing exciting, cutting edge technology like this incredible coating application.”
Currently being tested on a Europe-only Nissan Note painted half & half with Ultra-Ever Dry, the Japanese automaker plans on providing its full range of vehicles with the new paint formulation in the future... a grim future, perhaps, if you're in the car wash business. (via CSMonitor)
