Panasonic Magic Mirror Offers Tough Love About Your Look

Nobody’s perfect, but that doesn’t stop most of us from trying to look our best. There are definitely times when feelings of insecurity crop up and we view ourselves as slightly more flawed than usual. It can be hard to determine whether these feelings are due to an actual change in appearance or if we are just being overly critical. In such instances a loved one is often put on the spot to make the final determination, often with rather catastrophic results.

Taking criticism is never easy, but getting this kind of feedback from someone you care about and who cares about you can be excruciating (yes, even when you’ve asked for it). Wouldn’t it be great if you could get the same honest viewpoint from a cold, unfeeling machine? Well, this may just be the wave of the future. The Panasonic Magic Mirror made a splash at the 2015 CES trade show in Vegas doing just that.

Users simply gaze into the mirror (evil queen style) and the device analyzes different elements of your overall look. You can get feedback about such issues as wrinkles, sun damage, acne redness, sleep deprivation, dryness, etc. After analysis is complete, a read-out appears on one side of the mirror to show any problems it has detected and the other side shows suggestions of what can be done to improve or correct the issues. The device also lets you virtually test out various cosmetics and facial hair.

The mirror is expected to crop up first in stores to help advise customers on what products to buy, but may be available for home use at some point after that.
