Parkour Meets Mario Brothers: Tempest Freerunning Academy
Well, this is just friggin' awesome. A gym modeled after Super Mario Brothers. Because the only thing cooler than jumping, flipping and swinging off of concrete and asphalt in the real world is doing it in a recognizable, video-game-simulating world.
The Tempest Freerunning Acadamy in is an indoor freerunning/ parkour training facility designed to mimick the virtual world of Luigi and Mario. The obstacles are painted like the bricks that you'd see in the game, but unfortunately, it doesn't look like there are any mushrooms that make you grow larger.
While the Mario-Brothers theming is a buzzworthy draw of the academy, there are also other obstacle courses--7,000 square feet worth-- with equipment like bars, ramps and walls. And of course, things like a spring floor and foam pits, keep you safe while you push your skills to the next level.
The Tempest Academy calls itself California's (LA) "first indoor training facility solely dedicated to the growth and spread of freerunning and parkour." It opened its doors on April 2 and offers both classes and open gym.
