Pentax Optio WS80 Waterproof Camera
The Optio WS80 won't be capturing deep sea creatures or coral reef anytime soon, but it is a good, simple waterproof camera that delivers protection at a price point. $250 buys you a sub-inch-thick camera that is capable of taking underwater photos with a five-foot waterproof rating. It's also dustproof.
On the photographic end, the camera has a 10 MP CCD, 5 x internal optical zoom and is capable of shooting 720p HD video at 30 fps. The camera also includes those amateur photog essentials like Fast Face Detection, Blink Detection and Smile Capture. Shake Reduction compensates for shaking during filming and stabilizes images so that you get clean, blur-free video. Underwater mode helps you take advantage of the waterproofing of the camera by optimizing color settings for underwater shooting. And a Small Face feature reduces the size of the subject's face to compensate for your massively oversized, misshapen head.
While the camera may not be great for anything deeper than your backyard pool or any watersport more rigorous than water polo, it's a great option for anyone looking for a small, inexpensive camera for light water use.
