For months there have been rumors of a Pontiac G8 based Sport Truck, called an Ute in Australia. At the Chicago Auto Show, GM showed of the GMC Denali XT Concept, but said it was a hit or miss for production. Now, Pontiac has broken the silence and offered up some information, including the fact that you can name the new Ute.
The G8 Ute will seat 2 people and offer a 6' 2" bed behind the cabin. With your purchase, you will also receive a color matched soft tonneau bed cover. When fully enclose, the bed will feature 42.7 cubic feet of space.
To move the new Ute, GM will be using the 361-hp 6.0L V8 borrowed from its cousin the G8 Sedan. The sprint to 60mph should take somewhere in the range of 5.5 seconds. The powerplant also allows up to 1100lbs of cargo to be piled into the bed or you can hitch up a trailer and tow 3500lbs, your choice.
The interesting part comes from GM allowing fans to submit ideas about what to name the new vehicle. They have been bombarded with requests to bring the Ute to the States, so they feel the people should be able to name the little hauler. You can submit your ideas here .
