Pregnant? Download Your Own Personal Baby Expert - BabyBuddy

About to be a mum? Well you should download Baby Buddy, a newly released smartphone app for mums to guide you through your pregnancy and the first six months of your baby's life, supporting the health and wellbeing of you and your baby.

First you have to enter your baby's name, then you are assigned a Buddy, a virtual friend who will ask you a series of questions in order to customize your experience. Your Buddy will guide you through the whole pregnancy process with bite sized pieces of relevant and reliable information every day. You can even edit how your buddy looks in the app.

There's a lot of functionality: a tracker for your personal goals and achievements, an "Ask me" section where you can ask for expert advice, an appointments section so you won't forget to attend important baby scans, videos on a growing range of topics, definitions of words related with pregnancy, and a section to give feedback as the creators are looking for ways to keep improving the app.

Baby Buddy was built to tackle the inequalities between babies in terms of life expectancy, rate of hospital admission and likelihood of suffering from illnesses such as diabetes in later life. Glaring inequalities are not just found between babies in different countries, but between babies born in neighboring towns in England.

It is funded by Best Beginnings, a charity dedicated to closing the baby inequality gap, and it's endorsed by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Royal College of Midwives, Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association, Institute of Health Visitors, Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

In the month since it's release in the UK, it has received ten 5 star ratings in the app store. Let's hope they open it up to the rest of the world soon. Download your version on iPhone or Android here
