The Return of 10 Ads to Disgust & Disturb You

As I write this it is Halloween.  I'm looking forward to scaring the hell outta kids and giving them candy.  Usually my girlfriend and I would be attending a big costume party, but it was cancelled this year.  Couple that with my new fun-filled diabetes situation and that makes for a slightly more mellow holiday.

I recently wrote an article for Halloween ad campaigns (Trick or Treat?  Ghoulish Halloween Advertisements).  In digging around for examples I stumbled on ads that just didn't quite fit the category - yet still had the ability to weird me out.

It had been several months since I'd posted a new "Ads to Disgust & Disturb" article.  I had put it on hiatus for a bit, figuring that the marketing firms needed some time to catch up.

I was wrong.

They're still out there, my friends.  And I, for one, am thankful.  Why?  Because they make me laugh.  And I hope they make you laugh as well.

I'm starting off tame... but be ready for some gross stuff....

1. Society for the Protection of Animals

I'm on the fence when it comes to animal testing.  I'm an animal lover (big time), but can't deny the health benefits garnered through experimentation.  In other words, I'm a hypocrite when it comes to this topic.  I love steak, but I don't want to slaughter the cow.

Now that the serious stuff is said, I gotta point this out: I would never date a woman that sprayed dog breath on herself as a scent.  NEVER.

Dogs eat poop.

2. Chronic'Art Magazine

GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pin Head, Easter Bunny.  Easter Bunny, Pin Head.  Anyone seen the cocktail waitress?

3. Peacepower.se

Sales would rapidly decline...Sales would rapidly decline...

Um.  Well, crap.  I'm not ready to die yet.

4. PlayStation 3

I have never been able to figure out the PlayStation ad campaigns.  They're always hyper-strange and seem to have nothing to do with the game system itself.  This one is no exception.

Note that the girl on the table is apathetic while the guy is happily giving his heart to her.  Sounds like some of my past relationships.

5. Catalonian National Theater

It would have been easier for that guy to just have his heart ripped out like this.  His insurance deductible would probably be far less.

6. Canal+

Okay, not so disgusting or disturbing - but what a great way to advertise a horror movie marathon!

7. Museo Tamayo

I'm not exactly sure what kind of incentive to visit the museum they are going for here.  If there's a Clive Barker exhibit... okay, I get it.

8. The Orange Apple

Okay...  I've been keeping this one under wraps for a while now, trying to figure out what to do with it.

No.  Not that.  The ad.  I was originally gonna include it in Can You Spot the Weenie? 10 Subtle Ads Crave Your Attention, but figured it would be too obvious.

I'm really not sure what they're advertising here, but I wouldn't want it touching me.

9. Silk Soft Toilet Paper

You know it's scented...You know it's scented...

This grosses me out beyond description.  It's even hairy!!!!

But...

10. Tinactin

This ad makes me want to never EVER go outside again.  I get the point.  Use Tinactin and you'll rid yourself of... well, apparently not fungus.  Is Tinactin an "anti-fecal" med now?

Out of every advertisement I've covered in all of my articles, this is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen.

But I'll remember the product name.
