There's no end to the odd-ball remote-control devices that some tech geeks seem to think make PC-connected home theaters easier to operate while all they actually do is add a lot of awkward plastic and extra money to your HTPC. The Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard, on the other hand, looks like it would actually streamline your home theater without adding too much unnecessary equipment.
Only six-inches wide, the Rii slides easily between your digits and looks to offer a profile similar to that of a traditional remote. The full Qwerty keyboard on its face, however, lets you quickly enter text when using your HTPC. The keys are even backlit, for when you dim the lights to watch the movie of the night. The device offers wireless, 2.4 GHz transmission with a USB receiver good for up to 30 meters.
Other features of the Rii remote include a convenient touchpad, joystick-style navigation controls and a laser pointer. The remote operates on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
The Rii Wireless Mini Remote will set you back $92. You can find it at Brando.
