Arthur C. Clarke once said that, "Any sufficiently advanced
technology is indistinguishable from magic," and in the age of robots he
may just be right. In this case the two are literally aiming to be one
and the same. A robot created by Rethink and released last year is
getting a new career in prestidigitation. The robot, dubbed Baxter, is
currently in training to work as an illusionist under the training of
Marco Tempest, a magician of some note.
Baxter is able to learn a simple task in about 30
minutes, which isn't bad if you consider that he's only one year old.
The robot is currently in training with the magician to act as his
assistant. Though who knows, the robot may just show up in some nifty
tricks when all is said and done. The robot was chosen because of its
affordability. This robot only sets its owner back about $22,000. That
amount may sound like a lot, but other robots can cost as much as ten
times that much to buy. Source: Mashable
