Samurai Burgers Satisfy Taste For History
Make lunch, not war? How about both? That's the idea behind these five samurai themed burgers that highlight popular warlords from Japan's warring era.
Visitors to the 2010 FABEX show, a huge food and beverage exposition running from April 7th through 9th at Tokyo Big Sight (Tokyo International Exhibition Center), are gonna get hungry sooner or later, what with all the food & drink displays. When they do, a small booth serving up big burgers will be beckoning like a shogun whipping his soldiers into a battle frenzy. Drop your swords, samurai, and pick up your forks!
Five different burgers are being offered as part of complete fast food style meals that include fries and a cold drink. Each meal pays homage to one of five famous historical figures from the Sengoku period: Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Ieyasu Tokugawa, Yukimura Sanada and Masamune Date.
As well, the regions from which these warriors hailed from are represented by ingredients and/or garnishes, such as Apple Compote from Nagano gracing the Yukimura Sanada burger or "famous Sendai miso beef tongue" in the Date Masamune meal.
The samurai burgers feature a promotional tie-in to the Basara Segoku series of manga and video games. Americans may be familiar with the anime from the Sony Playstation games Devil Kings and Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes.
Costs and future availability of the samurai burgers isn't mentioned but considering Japan's ongoing obsession with both history and fast food, it's likely they'll be popping up sometime soon, though probably not at the Samurai Delicatessen. (via Gigazine)
