The Scream: Uh... What's That Under The Chair, You Say?

If the image of the Scream chair, designed by PIE Studio, takes you aback, I understand very well.  I too was having difficulty wondering where I would place such a chair in my home.

Do you have some idea what the large projection might be?

It's a uvula.  It's the 'thing' (muscle, actually) that hangs down in the back of our mouths that you see when person opens his or her mouth really wide to yawn or yes, to scream

Now scroll up again and look at the Scream chair.  That chair was inspired by a mouth. And when you sit on the chair, the uvula touches the the bottom of the chair/

Of course, once you know what you're looking at, you wonder how this intricate sculpture was made?  With a base of stainless steel and woven strips of aluminum - a lot of them.

Bannavis Andrew Sribyatta of PIE Studio designed the Scream chair.  Aaaahhhh!
